Chalazion: Chalazion Treatment, Chalazion Removal, What Cause Chalazion, Chalazion EyeWhat is Chalazion? If you are like most people you have no idea. Chalazion is an eye problem that manifests itself by a lump developing under your eyelid. Chalazion looks like a lump under your eyelid but it is actually a tumor that is the size of a piece of hard candy, although, the lump can reach even greater proportions. Why do you need to know about Chalazion? Because it could happen to you one day or someone you love. Chalazion is a curable eye problem, but one must be able to identify the symptoms of the disease in order to get the proper help immediately. Also, there are things that a person can do on their own to help their eye heal properly. Where did that lump come from? The lump did not come from somewhere as much as grew due to a gland within your eyelids. Sweat glandThere is a gland in our eye called the sweat gland, and what does this gland do? Your sweat gland makes oil inside of your eyelid. If the oil gets too thick your eyelid can become obstructed and two things can happen: your eyelid ruptures or it gets inflammed. It is kind of like heating up a pot of oil and then putting a lid on it. When you take the lid off the oil bubbles out of the pot, and the lid drips with droplets of oil. This is what kind of happens to when your sweat gland ruptures or get inflammed. Inflammation is when your body is reacting to a condition within your body, the reaction is biological which produces swelling, redness, and sometimes pain. How does it grow? There is no rhyme or reason to it, Chalazion (the lump) can grow over a period of a couple of days or a few weeks. How do I get rid of it?First, if the symptoms are severe go see a doctor, preferably an ophthalmologists. Second, hold a warm, wet compress for 10-15 minutes a couple of times of days against the lump. Third, massage the Chalazion (lumpy) area a couple of times, and do not try to pop the lump it is not a zit or scratch it. Fourth, if the compress does not work and things go from bad to worse like both of your eyes become swollen, the top and bottom of your eyelid is swollen, your eye leaks, have a fever, and a headache you need to go get medical care immediately. If all else failsIf all else fails and the lump has not diminished go see a doctor. The doctor can prescribed eye drops or an ointment to speed up the healing process. Sometimes Chalazion is caused by a bacterial infection and the doctor will prescribe antibiotics for you if that is the case. An ophthalmologists can inject steroid medication into you if a warm compress has not brought the swelling down under your eyelid. Again if all else fails, plus you have symptoms of Chalazion that last for weeks then the lump might have to be surgically removed. ConclusionChalazion is a treatable eye problem. If you have tried the warm compresses and given it a couple of days for the swelling to go down then seek an ophthalmologists. To make sure you actually have Chalazion the doctor will first give you an eye exam. From there a course of action will be determined, there are those that opt of homotherapy to get rid of the lump instead surgery. The decision is up to you, just make sure to gather all the information you can before. What others have contributed to this page? No contribution yet.
